How to Make a Reindeer Out of Popsicle Sticks

Are you ready to make a cute reindeer with popsicle sticks for your Christmas tree? Follow along below as we’ll provide the instructions you need for the reindeer ornament. Let’s get started on this crafty project!

To begin, gather up three popsicle sticks and lay them out in a row.

Step 1: Paint the Popsicle Sticks

If you’re using regular unpainted popsicle sticks, start by painting them brown. When letting your kiddo paint their popsicle sticks, make sure to place them on a surface they won’t get stuck on.

You can choose to paint one side of each popsicle stick or both. We painted only one side. You can also purchase pre-colored brown popsicle sticks if you want to skip this step.

When you are done, set the popsicle sticks to the side to dry.

Step 2: Form the Reindeer’s Head

Once your popsicle sticks are completely dry, it’s time to form your reindeer head, as shown below. With your help, let your child glue the popsicle sticks together in a triangular shape.

If you want your reindeer ornament to last for years to come, I recommend using craft glue or a hot glue gun. However, if you don’t have those on hand, Elmer’s glue is fine, too!

Step 3: Assemble Your Popsicle Stick Reindeer

Glue or stick two googly eyes on it towards one end. Then, glue a red pom-pom just below the eyes to create the reindeer’s nose. Next, cut a brown pipe cleaner into two separate pieces. Have your child help you twist the pipe cleaner around the top of the popsicle stick.

Use the second, smaller piece of pipe cleaner to make a V for the antlers. Wrap it around the other anter so it stays in place.

And just like that, you have a cute popsicle stick reindeer ornament for your tree!

Step 4: Add Tiny, Yarn, or String

This craft stick reindeer wouldn’t be a Christmas ornament if it didn’t have a way on the Christmas tree. Use a small piece of yarn or string to make a loop for hanging. Glue it on the back of the reindeer’s head and let it dry before hanging.

Get Creative With Your Reindeer Ornaments

You can also let your imagination run wild with these reindeer ornaments. Instead of using brown paint, you can use any color you want and create a popsicle craft unicorn or a colorful reindeer ornament! You can even add glitter to make your ornaments sparkle. The possibilities are endless!

Must Read Christmas Books

While your child is crafting up their adorable reindeer craft, now is the perfect time to read some Christmas stories together! From The Littlest Reindeer to How to Catch Santa Claus, these stories are sure to delight and entertain young minds.

Popsicle Stick Reindeer – Final Thoughts

Not only is this a fun holiday craft, but it also encourages creativity and improves fine motor skills in children. These popsicle stick reindeer ornaments will surely add a personal touch to your holiday decorations and make for great gifts.

So, gather your supplies, put on some Christmas music, and get crafting with your family! Happy holidays!
