How To Create Unicorn Puppets
Okay, so you’ve collected all of the supplies you needed for your unicorn puppet. Now here’s where things start to get fun. Let’s get to crafting!
Step 1: Create Your Unicorn Puppet Head And Horn
The first thing we’re going to do for this project is cut out the unicorn head and the unicorn horn.
Pick a piece of colored paper that you want to make your unicorn head out of. Let your child get creative, unicorns can be whatever color they want to be!
Cut the unicorn head out of the colored sheet of paper. You’ll want to keep it in the shape of a horse head or something similar to the one below.

Our unicorn puppet heads were about 4 inches tall but you can make them anywhere from 4 – 6 inches tall.
Insider Tip: If you’re going to make a lot of these, create a template and use that to trace the shape of each unicorn head.
Now that your unicorn head is cut out, it’s time to cut out its magical horn!
Take your glitter paper and cut out a triangle that’s about 1 – 1.5 inches tall. Make sure if you make your unicorn heads bigger that you make your horn a little bigger.
Step 2: Glue-On The Unicorn Hand Puppets Horn and Eyes
We’ve got our unicorn head and horn cut out. Now it’s time to start gluing things together.
Start by gluing your unicorn horn to the top of the unicorn head. You’ll want to put a small drop of glue towards the bottom of the horn on the backside then press it to the top of the unicorn head.
Next, you’ll want to give your unicorn an eye. If you got the googly eye set we recommended, you have a lot of different options.
Choose the googly eye that gives your unicorn the most personality. Place a drop of glue on the backside of the eye, and stick it to your unicorn.

Step 3: Choose A Mane
If you’ve read any unicorn books, you know that a unicorn needs to have a glamorous mane. That’s what we’re going to do right now.
You’ve got a lot of different choices for mane colors if you bought the glitter tape variety pack we recommended. Choose the tape that fits your unicorn the best!
Now that you’ve chosen your tape, cut 2 strips about 1 – 1.5 inches long. Next, you’ll want to cut those 2 strips in half the long way so you end up with 4 skinny strips.
Place the 4 strips sticking out, down the neck of the unicorn to create the mane.

The last part of this step is to draw the nose and mouth on your unicorn. We used washable markers to do this step but whatever you have lying around will work just fine.
Step 4: Attach The Puppet Handle
We’re almost done! The last thing you need to do is attach the handle to your unicorn puppet.
Take a Popsicle stick and glue it to the back of your unicorn. Give it time to dry and you’ll be ready to start the puppet shows.
